UNA BREVE HISTORIA DEL MINISTERIO HISPANO EN LA CATEDRAL

Al principio del a√±o 2008, El Obispo Kirk Stevan Smith, La Revda. Carmen Guerrero, y el Dean de la Catedral, Rev. Nicholas Knisely, se reunieron con otras personas de la Catedral y decidieron hacer un esfuerzo para desarrollar un ministerio entre la comunidad hispana en Phoenix.

El d√≠a 10 de Febrero del a√±o 2008 se celebro la primera Misa en espa√±ol en la Catedral con unas quince personas. As√≠ fue que se form√≥ una comunidad nueva. Hoy esta comunidad cuenta con mas de cincuenta familias.

Ademas de celebrar La Eucaristia cada domingo al mediodia con musica de Mariachis, tambien se ofrecen clases de ingles, escuela dominical para los ni√±os, y celebraciones de quincea√±eras, bodas, primeras comuniones y todos los sacramentos.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CURRENT HISPANIC MINISTRY AT THE CATHEDRAL

In early 2008, Bishop Kirk Steven Smith, The Reverend Canon Carmen Guerrero, The Very Reverend Nicholas Knisely, and other support staff began to expand outreach / ministry efforts to Spanish speaking people in downtown Phoenix. On February 10, 2008, fifteen people gathered for the first Spanish Language Eucharist at the Cathedral and a new worshipping community was formed. In addition to a regularly scheduled worship service each Sunday, special attention has been given to celebrating traditional Hispanic customs and feast days during the year.

As the Hispanic congregation at the Cathedral has grown, additional programs have been added to enrich the lives of the people who worship here. In addition to Christian Education classes in Spanish, beginning English classes for Spanish speakers are also offered twice a week free of charge.
