Sunday School 2022-2023 Year in Review

The past year has been a wonderful beginning to our Youth & Family Ministry and Sunday School. To everyone who participated, thank you! I’d like to share what we’ve done.

Since October, our attendance has grown into steady numbers at Sunday School, averaging 16 children every Sunday between both class times. The children are incredibly intelligent, remembering key details from more than 15 bible studies. We also implemented dynamic prayer, where the children, volunteers and myself use visuals to pray. We write down each prayer on a sticky note and post it to our altar for prayer or use big sheets of paper and work together on a subject of prayer, adding all our thoughts to be recognized.

During our time learning God’s words and the stories that shape us, we also applied ourselves in service. We completed a service project with Feed my Starving Children in Mesa. It was so much fun to participate, and we helped so many! We packed 114 boxes with a total of 24,624 meals–enough to feed 67 kids for an entire year! We made this happen in less than two hours. The food was distributed in the Philippines to those in need.

Along with service, we also took a trip to the Phoenix Art Museum, and had a tour led by our very own Janet Baker. We explored an exhibit focused on religion and also the Art of Asia: Japanese Noh Theater that Janet curated. We had a lovely time exploring the museum and even doing a scavenger hunt.

We helped close out the year with a movie night. We watched a new movie, had pizza and popcorn. Parents were generous and brought goodies to share!

Lastly, our focus was sending as many children who wanted to attend summer camp at Chapel Rock. We held several fundraisers, including a raffle and silent auction. Thanks to your generosity, we raised more than $2,300 and were able to help five children attend Chapel Rock. Our parents were kind enough to assist with any other children who wanted to participate. I have always been floored by the level of generosity from all of you. Thank you, your donation and support is greatly appreciated and felt through all of us.

Looking forward, we are planning a full schedule. Trinity will host a summer camp focused on the arts led by our Olney Gallery Director Manny Burruel and myself. Look out for information on that coming very soon, as well as the upcoming fall schedule! If you’d like to participate as a volunteer or want information for your own children, reach out to me! Enjoy your summer and stay cool. Thank you again, truly.

Sincerely,
Clarissa Ortiz
