The Reverend Troy Mendez

The Very Rev. Troy Mendez was called to serve as the fourteenth dean of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and began his term in January 2014.  Prior to his arrival in Phoenix, Dean Mendez served at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, CA, and previously at the historic Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel, CA.

A native of Houston, Texas, Dean Mendez moved to Los Angeles in 1994 after graduating from the University of Notre Dame, and held positions in sales and marketing with Delta Air Lines and General Mills.  Troy became an active parishioner at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, and his involvement in the choral and liturgical ministries of the parish led him to discern a call to ordained ministry.

Dean Mendez attended Virginia Theological Seminary from 2006-2009, and graduated Cum Laude.  In 2012, Troy was honored to be elected to the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Theological Seminary, a term which continues until 2017.

Having experienced the transformation of congregations while on pilgrimage, Dean Mendez continues to be active in ministries concerning the Holy Land.  Seeing the value in preserving the native Christian community’s presence in Israel/Palestine, Troy continues to promote pilgrimage and peace by serving as treasurer of the North American Committee of St. George’s College, Jerusalem.

Dean Mendez’s main call to ministry centers on guiding people into and through a life-long journey of partnering with the living God.   Troy exudes tremendous joy and is widely respected as a pastor, teacher and preacher.  He is committed to and passionate about seeing the Church offer all people a sense of belonging, dignity, community and the grace of new life given to us in Jesus Christ.
