SERVE AT CHURCH
There are many ways to serve at Trinity, from positions assisting with worship services, singing in the choir, assisting with the art exhibits in the Olney Gallery, providing pastoral care to parishioners in need, and more! Read on!
Ministries During Worship Services
- Acolytes: Acolytes serve a variety of roles during worship at Trinity. They primarily carry candles, crosses, or the Gospel Book as part of the procession at the beginning and end of services, and during the reading of the Gospel.
- Altar Guild: The Altar Guild is responsible for setting up and tidying up the altar before and after worship, and tending to the worship vessels we use with care.
- Chalice Bearers: Chalice bearers assist with serving Holy Communion to the congregation. This may be the wine, but occasionally the wafers too. Often our chalice bearers are serving as acolytes in the same service.
- Lay Readers: Lay Readers are responsible for reading aloud most of the Scripture and some prayers during the service, including the Psalm and the prayers of the people.
- Ushers: Ushers greet everyone coming for worship and offer a warm smile, a service bulletin, and help with any questions you may have about seating, restrooms, childcare, etc. They also help collect the offertory and manage the flow of the congregation to receive communion.

Choir/Music
The Cathedral Choir helps lead worship at our 10 a.m. Eucharist from Welcome Back Sunday in early September through Trinity Sunday each year. It is comprised of both staff singers and volunteer members and rehearses on Wednesday nights. The choir also leads worship at special services, including a few gorgeous Evensong services each year and our Lessons and Carols service around Christmas.
At Christmas, Easter, and other times we may also have the pleasure of incorporating string quartets, bagpipers, and other musicians to enhance our worship experience together.

Hospitality Ministry
The Hospitality Team welcomes all who come to our Sunday services. Greeters meet people at the door when they first arrive on our campus, providing directions to the sanctuary and answering any questions people may have. Others participate in this ministry by signing up to host coffee hour between services.

Pastoral Care
In loving one another, we also love our God. If you have the gift of listening and empathy, perhaps assisting with pastoral care is the ministry for you. Making phone calls to the homebound, taking communion to those who are unable to attend worship or are in the hospital, and praying for those in need are all possible ways to engage.
You may also ask for prayers of petition, intercession, or thanksgiving. If you like, you may ask to be listed as part of the Cathedral’s weekly cycle of prayer. Please send an email to prayers@trinitycathedral.com
If you need pastoral care for yourself in a time of suffering or confusion or crisis, the clergy are available to meet with you. Call the Pastoral Emergency number below.
